What is “Yuki no Otani? or Snow Corridor

Tateyama Murododaira is located in Toyama prefecture. The area is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the world. In particular, “Otani” near Murodo has a particularly heavy snowfall because of its snowdrift, and its depth can exceed 20 meters. The “Yuki no Otani” is a huge wall of snow nearly 20 meters high that is created by clearing snow from the road that passes through this “Otani”.

The beauty of ‘Yuki no Otani’ is its “Snow Wall Height”. So it’s best when the snow wall is the highest condition. In other words, the best timing is right after Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route opens. It is about the end of April. As time goes by, the snow melts and becomes black.When it rains, it melts at once.

How you can get to the starting point?

You leave Tateyama Station. Take “Tateyama Cable Car” to “Bijohei”. Gloves, scarves, hats and other cold weather gear are sold at the shop. If you’ve worn thin clothes, you can buy them here. In this “Tateyama Station”, let’s make sure to get a guidebook.
It is very convenient because it shows the time table of the rides you ride at “Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route”, the map and the points to see easily.
